IntuiTap eliminates the guesswork, frustration, and pain from spinal punctures.

THE PROBLEM

Spinal punctures are inaccurate and inefficient

HIGH FIRST-ATTEMPT FAILURE RATES

The current technique requires physicians to palpate the patient's vertebrae and blindly insert a needle. This method is highly unpredictable and unreliable resulting in first attempt successes in only 40-60% of cases.

UNNECESSARY PATIENT PAIN & COMPLICATIONS

Inaccurate needle placement and multiple insertion attempts increase the likelihood of complications such as post dural puncture headaches, improper placement and injection of a drug, and contaminated fluid samples rendering them useless for diagnosis.

INCREASED NEED FOR RADIATION

The uncertainty of the procedure results in cases being deprioritized in the ER, causing a delay in treatment and resulting in patients occupying valuable beds for hours at a time. Additionally,  over 45% of patients requiring a spinal tap in the ED are sent to radiology to have the procedure performed under fluoroscopic guidance. This causes significant bottlenecks and results in increased and unnecessary costs to the healthcare system.

OUR SOLUTION

IntuiTap is the world’s first device designed for spinal punctures that integrates mapping of the spine with needle guidance to help physicians get where they need to go on the first try.

REAL TIME SPINAL MAPPING

The IntuiTap device uses tactile imaging to improve upon the current procedure by enhancing palpation to detect the vertebrae. A real-time image of the underlying bones is created and displayed conveniently on the LCD screen attached to the handheld device.

NEEDLE GUIDANCE

Our device projects onto the screen exactly where the needle will end up if inserted at that location, allowing the physician to visualize precisely where they need to insert the needle for optimal success. Additionally, our incorporated needle guide helps the physician advance the needle at a consistent angle, greatly improving their chance of success.
